I would totally pimp my living room with these...
Saturday, 12 July 2008

"This past weekend Adidas opened its massive new Beijing outpost. In celebration, a special exhibition of Dorophy Tang was mounted. Tang, based in Hong Kong and China, mixed Adidas heritage, footballing visuals and French furniture forms into her display. Unmitigated joy comes through the smiling, chubby little kids that figure in each work. Nice reminder of what the sporting life should be like."

Question: If you could live inside a Tetris piece, which one would it be?  Pieter Peerlings & Silvia Mertens, architects in Antwerp, Belguim opted for the long skinny piece you hope drops when you're wanting to rack up major points.

Reclaiming the narrow space between two existing buildings, they built this clean, modern 645 sq. ft. home.  "Four wooden floors between two existing walls, hanging in a steel skeleton, organize this house: downstairs for work, dining on 1st, relaxing on 2nd, sleeping on 3rd, and on the roof, go and enjoy the view."

Which Tetris piece would you live in?

London Delft Tableware

I don't know why I'm so facinated with street art.  Maybe it was my three years living in Los Angeles.  Some things just stick... like the Lakers.  But I love graffiti.  I mean how many times can I post about Banksy.  So, when I came across these on JS, I had to throw something up here.

When Maria and I were getting married, we went and registered like every greedy good couple is supposed to.  And here in Alabama they put a high premium on "starting your China collection."  I don't know what the deal is.  It's not like you ever really use them.  I wasn't that into it and luckily neither was my wife-to-be.

I have to admit though that if these tableware sets by Lovegrove & Repucci were around, I'd be zapping away with that little Lazer Tag thing they give you.  And our generous friends and loved ones would've only had to drop $100 per five-piece set.  Check out the YouTube ad for their previous set... New York Delft Tableware (Pic).

For real though... what's up with "starting your China collection?"  Somebody help me out here.

The architecture offices of David Yocum and Brian Bell in Atlanta are unassuming if not off-putting.  I absolutely love the concept here.  No big sign... no flashing lights saying, "we're the best."  Just a muted exterior that hides an extraordinary workspace sure to infuse confidence in any potential client that actually makes it through the doors.

Rainbow Bookshelf

So, if you're looking for a creative way to organize your books, the above shot may do the job.  Instead of organizing by author, title, or subject... organize by cover.  Even for a color-blind guy like me, it's still pretty cool.  Of course you could go out and choose from the ubersweet bookshelves like the ones below or the rest found over at Freshome.

Yes, this last one is actually a book shelf.

The Pound is Killing Me
Wednesday, 09 April 2008
NEWDESIGNSFORMATION.JPG With the exchange rates the way they are, I'm surprised we've lasted this long over here in the United Kingdom.  Now, not only is the pound strong but it's gonna look good.  The new designs, slated to be minted this year, are visually engaging.  What's even more incredible is that the new designs are the result of a nation-wide contest which began in August 2005 and attracted 4,000 entries. The winning designer is 26-year-old Matthew Dent, originally from Bangor who now lives and works in London as a graphic designer.

"The Shield of the Royal Arms has been given a contemporary treatment and its whole has been cleverly split among all six denominations from the 1p to the 50p, with the £1 coin displaying the heraldic element in its entirety."

I know you're not supposed to love money... but can you love it's design?NEWDESIGNSREVEALED.JPG
